How we work

At CBA-NL, we carry out the vision and mission of the Canadian Bar Association in Newfoundland and Labrador.

A group of business professionals engaged in a meeting around a conference table, discussing strategies and ideas.

CBA-NL is governed by our Branch bylaws and policies along with the bylaws of the CBA. Led by our President, our Executive Committee is responsible for advancing the work of CBA-NL. They ensure the necessary resources for Branch operations, and oversee the outcomes of our advocacy, programs and activities.

Our Council provides a forum for CBA-NL leaders to learn, inform and promote the work of the CBA in Newfoundland and Labrador. Council serves as an advisory group to the Executive Committee.

Our Executive Director leads CBA-NL operations so we can support and serve our members.

National governance

Our national association is governed by a President, supported by a 15-member Board of Directors. The National Board represents the diversity of Canada’s legal profession, including practice types, experience, skills, geography and more. All provinces and territories have a seat at the table. CBA Board members are elected by the current Local Branch Executive Committee.

Each member serves a two-year term. Board member terms are staggered so only some of the Board change each year.
